Miniature reproduction Haute Couture Fall-Winter 1951 collection, Longue line
This miniature dress is a reproduction of the Mexique design from the Fall-Winter 1951 collection, Longue line, presented at one-third of its original size.
For a reproduction of this size, it is necessary to review the entire creative process, including the toile, the pattern and embroidery, which must be redesigned to match the new desired proportions. The materials and production technique also need to be tailored.
These little dresses echo the Théâtre de la Mode, which was created in 1945 to promote post-war Haute Couture and brought together the creations of the iconic fashion houses of the time, before the creation of the House of Dior.
An exhibition around the Théâtre de la Mode was organized at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. It subsequently toured the world. The decors created to present the little dresses were designed by Jean Cocteau and Christian Bérard among others.
Nowadays the House of Dior produces miniature dresses for a number of occasions, the first of which was the 2012 Christmas window decoration of the Printemps department store in Paris.
Miniature dresses were also displayed in exhibitions called “Le Théâtre Dior.”
The latest production of miniature dresses was in 2020, for the presentation of the Fall-Winter 2020-2021 collection, which could not be unveiled under the usual conditions.
The designs were therefore made on a smaller scale and presented in a magical trunk which embodied 30 Avenue Montaigne, as a tribute to the Théâtre de la Mode.
